A Tribute to Notre Dame
Today we watched in collective horror as Notre Dame burned. It is a moment I won’t soon forget. In fact, Matt and I can’t seem to keep the Cathedral out of our conversation tonight, thinking about the history she holds, the passage of time she has witnessed, the prayers whispered under her roof, the stories woven into her rose windows.
Sometimes it is so difficult to watch history unfold. Tonight it is particularly devastating.
Notre Dame is Paris. It is epic, medieval, graceful, heavy, lofty, and mystical. It stands for every beautiful dream of humanity–of religious devotion, of architectural genius, of culture and community. My heart collapses as it does.
With the most sincere respect and utmost sadness for what Notre Dame means for the city of Paris and the rest of the world, this blog honors and remembers the Cathedral.
